As Professor of Global Liberal Studies at New York University over the last 22 years, I have played a leading role in rethinking the Liberal Arts as part of the institution’s evolving Global Network framework, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses at four different sites: New York, London, Florence, and Abu Dhabi. I have won curricular grants to develop innovativeworkshop connecting Humanities methods to the Sciences, Museum Studies, Economics, and emerging job markets. My scholarly publications and symposium curation for museum exhibitions have emerged from this interdisciplinary and transnational approach.
I apply my academic expertise to develop strategies, conceptual frameworks, and implementation toolkits for governmental and cultural institutions such as the Department of Culture and Tourism in Abu Dhabi.

About the Speaker
Mahnaz Yousefzadeh is Professor of Global Liberal Studies at New York University, specializing in modern Italy, early modern Florence, and Europe’s relations with the Islamic world. She is the author of City and Nation in Italian Unification (2011) and Florence’s Embassy to the Sultan of Egypt (2019).
Event Context
Delivered as part of the commemorations for the 150th anniversary of Italian unification, this keynote was sponsored by the City of Florence and held in the Salone dei Cinquecento (Hall of the Five Hundred), a historic setting for civic and cultural life in Florence.
